About Mezzo Music Academy
Established in 2011, on a small scale, in a humble building in Kimmage, Mezzo Music Academy expanded rapidly and relocated in 2014 to a larger, purpose built premises in Terenure offering a variety of music lessons in Dublin.
Mezzo Music Academy was founded by Sonya Murphy Lyons, a UCD Music Graduate who taught Classical Guitar for over 20 years, and has extended experience in Sales, Marketing and Management.
Hailing from a musical family, her father William Murphy, a well known songwriter and guitarist, teaches at Mezzo Music Academy along with her sister, pianist & conductor Maria Stanley.
Her niece, Sorcha Stanley, who joined Mezzo Music Academy part-time when she was still in college, has been with Mezzo for many years now, and manages the day to day operations of the academy.
Sonya & Sorcha strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where students are nurtured to develop their musical gift, inspired to enjoy the process and encouraged to love music for life.

Having successfully auditioned to continue her Classical Guitar studies under the tutelage of John Feely, Sonya then studied part time at the College of Music in to her 20’s, and achieved her Licentiate Diploma during this time.
Why Music?
There are many benefits to learning a musical instrument from a young age and playing an instrument (or studying voice) gives your child a chance to experience learning in a whole new way.
In the last decade, neuroscience has discovered that music promotes brainpower.
While listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, learning to actually play music can enhance spacial reasoning, verbal comprehension and the ability to process information at a faster pace. It gives children a greater edge when it comes to paying attention in school, and a better memory overall. Interestingly, these benefits last well into old age.
